چکیده
Left ventricular circumferential end-diastolic stress (Sed), peak systolic stress (Sps), and compliance at end-diastole ([dV/VdP]ed) were estimated in 13 subjects with normal left ventricles (N group), nine subjects with inappropriate hypertrophy (IH group), five with aortic valvular stenosis (AS group), and six with congestive cardiomyopathy (CC group). The product of Sed and (dV/dP)ed was employed as an index of (<muscle fiber stretch" and related to systolic indices of ventricular performance. Compliance was significantly less than normal in IH (P < 0.001), in AS (P < 0.01), and in CC (P < 0.001), while end-diastolic volumes were smaller than normal (P < 0.05), normal (P = NS), and larger than normal (P < 0.001) in the three groups, respectively. Sed was normal in IH and AS but elevated in CC (P < 0.001), while Sps was decreased in IH and normal in AS and CC. "Muscle fiber stretch," however,

Effect of exercise training and L-arginine supplementation on oxidative stress and left ventricular function in rats with myocardial infarction
Introduction: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of exercise training and L-arginine supplementation on oxidative stress and systolic ventricular function in rats with myocardial infarction (MI). Methods: Four weeks after the surgically-induced MI, 40 male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to the following 4 groups (n=10): MI-sedentary control (Sed) MI-exercise (Ex) MI-...
متن کاملDipyridamole stress and rest gated 99mTc-sestamibi myocardial perfusion SPECT: left ventricular function indices and myocardial perfusion findings
Introduction: We investigated the difference in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and end-systolic volume(ESV) measured by gated myocardial perfusion SPECT (GSPECT) in the post-dipyridamole stress and rest periods, and compared the results with the perfusion patterns found in the conventional non-gated tomograms. Methods: 297 consecutive patients were studie...
متن کاملThe Relation between Left Ventricular Function and Serum Ferritin in Major Β-Thalassemia
Abstract Objective Cardiac dysfunction is a major cause of death in patients with beta thalassemia. In these patients, repeated blood transfusion, ineffective erythropoiesis and increased gastrointestinal iron absorption lead to iron overload in the body and this induced heart failure. Left ventricular ejection fraction was measured in major beta thalassemia (β-Th) patients to detect the rela...
متن کاملReference values of M-mode echocardiographic parameters and indices in conscious Labrador Retriever dogs
Breed-wise standard echocardiographic values in dogs have been reported as there is variation in body and chest conformation which limits the application of data of one breed for other breed. Labrador Retrievers being originated from hunting dogs, might have different echocardiographic values from standard normal range of other dog breeds. So, the present study was aimed to determine the M-mode...
متن کاملCombined Therapy with Deferiprone and Desferrioxamine as Compared to Desferasirox on Ventricular Function in Thalassemia Major Patients
Abstract Background Myocardial iron overload is the leading cause of death in patients with beta-thalassemia major. Combined therapy with deferiprone(DFP) and desferrioxamine (DFO)were suggested to be more effective than deferasirox(DFX) for removing heart iron. Deferasirox has recently been made available, but its long-term efficacy on cardiac function has not yet been established. Our study...
